Feeding Ourselves 2021 – ‘Practicing Food Sovereignty


The annual gathering of small farmers, seed savers, cooperatives, community food advocates and anyone with an interest in good food, good farming and rural revitalisation.

This year Feeding Ourselves will be held online with the first session on Thursday evening exploring the context and theme of ‘Practicing Food Sovereignty’.  In the second session on Friday afternoon, there are two streams to choose from. 

Stream 1 is focused on Regenerative Agriculture and Seed Sovereignty. Stream 2 is focused on Food Hubs, Community Supported Agriculture and the Open Food Network.

What role do food hubs, CSAs and community-owned digital market platforms play in helping us overcoming economic and health challenges, and enabling the organising, processing and distribution of food locally? 

Conversation facilitated by Davie Philip CSA Network Ireland, Davie is a facilitator and trainer with Cultivate, the Sustainable Ireland Cooperative, Chair of OFN Ireland and the coordinator of the Cloughjordan Community Farm’s Open Food Hub.

Laurie Wayne OFN USA, Laurie left an awesome job in Silicon Valley to become an organic farmer in the high desert of northeastern California. While farming, she started and managed a food hub and farmers market, and co-founded a local food nonprofit in her remote community. Funded by proceeds from the sale of her farm she now works full time to grow the Open Food Network in the US.

John Brennan, Drumshambo Food Hub – John is the manager of the Leitrim Organic Farmer’s Coop and a director of Blakes Always Organic based at The Drumshambo Food Hub, a best practice food production and education facility based in Drumshanbo, Co. Leitrim. Since its establishment in 2004, it has emerged as Ireland’s premier artisan multi-tenant food production enterprise centre, established by a social enterprise.

Evonne Boland OFN Ireland. Evonne is a founding member of OFN Ireland and the coordinator of the Local Market Hub, a new market for Newbridge offering quality, locally-produced food on a weekly basis from their click & collect hub.
